Terms of use
Terms of use
The short version: use Tonnage to train, keep your account to yourself, treat the people in your teams and crews well, and own what you log.
Effective · For the Tonnage apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch and the web app at tonnage.cloudnativesolutions.ai.
The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Jai Kakkar (“we”, “us”), who runs Tonnage. By creating an account or using the service you accept them and our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
Tonnage is a strength training log you use in a browser and on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. It is free and has no ads. We keep improving it, so features may change, arrive or go away. If we ever have to stop the service, we tell you in the app well ahead and you keep the means to export your log.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age for using online services where you live) to have an account. If you are under 18, use Tonnage with the permission of a parent or guardian.
Your account
- Give a real e-mail address you can read; it is how you get back in if you forget your password.
- Keep your password and your devices to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person per account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has access.
Your content
What you log stays yours: sessions, programs, measurements, notes, photos and videos. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store it, back it up, sync it to your devices and show it to you and to the people you choose to share it with. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account (backups age out within 30 days).
You are responsible for what you put in front of others: your display name, team and crew names, challenge titles, announcements and the photos you share. Do not post anything you have no right to.
Fair use
Do not use Tonnage to:
- harass, threaten, impersonate or demean anyone, or post hateful, sexual or violent content, or anything involving a minor in a sexual way;
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- get at another person’s account or data, probe or break the service’s security, or get around its limits;
- overload the service, scrape it, or create accounts or invites automatically or in bulk;
- push Buddy to produce harmful content or to reveal anything other than your own data.
Teams and crews are for people who agreed to join them. There is no place in Tonnage for objectionable content or abusive users: we remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules, and we act on reports, usually within a day.
Teams and crews
- Joining a team lets its coaches, admins and owners read your training history for as long as you stay. A crew sees only the stats you switch on.
- Owners and admins manage their team or crew: who is in it, its invites and its settings. Anyone can leave any team or crew at any time.
- To report a person, an announcement, a shared program day or a whole team or crew, choose Report in its menu in the app. We look at every report and can remove content, remove a member, or switch an account, a team or a crew off. You can also block another member inside a team or crew, and you can write to [email protected].
Buddy
Buddy answers from your own log with an AI model. Its answers and suggestions can be wrong: check a change before you apply it. To prevent abuse, the operator can review conversations with Buddy, as the privacy policy explains. We can switch Buddy off for an account that misuses it.
Training is at your own risk
Tonnage and Buddy are not medical advice and not a medical device. Programs, progressions, estimated maxes and recovery figures are estimates. Talk to a doctor or a qualified coach before you start a program, especially with an injury or a condition, and stop if something hurts. Numbers from Apple Health and wearables are only as accurate as the devices that recorded them.
The software
The software behind Tonnage is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, and its complete source is public: source code. The licence, not these terms, governs your use of the code. These terms govern your use of the hosted service.
Apple Health, Apple Watch, OneSignal, Cloudflare and any wearable you connect are run by other companies under their own terms.
If you got the app from Apple
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app, its content, its maintenance and its support.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for it (the app is free); Apple has no other warranty obligation for it.
- Apple is not responsible for any claim about the app or your use of it, including product liability, failure to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection or privacy law, or a claim that the app infringes someone else’s intellectual property. We handle those.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a United States embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on a United States list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the App Store is also subject to Apple’s own terms.
Ending
You can stop using Tonnage whenever you like, and delete your account yourself in Profile → Account, at once (what goes). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others or the service at risk. When it is reasonable, we tell you first and give you the chance to export your log.
Warranty and liability
The service is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it running and your data safe, and we keep backups, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never lose data: export your log now and then.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, for lost data, or for injury from training, and our total liability to you is limited to 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or takes away your rights as a consumer.
Law, changes and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the laws where you live, and may bring a claim in your local courts.
If these terms change in a way that matters, we tell you in the app before the change applies; using the service after that means you accept the new terms. Questions and notices: [email protected]. Help with the app: Support.
